As with its soil, the climate of Solano County varies. Most areas of the county have a warm Mediterranean climate in the Winkler Region III. Rainfall is low during the growing season, making for long, sunny days. The Winkler Region Index was developed in California at UC Davis shortly after the end of Prohibition. It determines the number of degree days, which is a measure of heating and cooling, to help guide grape growers with what varieties will flourish.
