An American Viticulture Area (AVA), is a federally recognized Appellation of Origin. AVAs are created when a localized area has unique features, such as climate and soil, that affects how grapes are grown and taste.
Solano County has two distinct AVAs that are fully located within the county, the Suisun Valley AVA, established in 1982, and Solano County Green Valley AVA, established in 1983. California has over 130 AVAs, the Suisun Valley AVA being the second oldest.
