Grape growers must be familiar with the variety of soil they are growing in, as it impacts growth and flavor. The soil that Solano County grapes are grown in changes between location and AVAs. 

The Suisun Valley AVA is known to have varieties of clay, silty, and sandy loam soils and the Solano County Green Valley AVA is known to have sandy alluvial soil.
