Piston pumpers were fire trucks that could pump water right from a water source like a pond and push it out at great force toward a fire. This one has a special sphere on top that made the water much smoother as it went out of the hose. Ahrens Fox fire trucks are known for that sphere, so if you see another fire truck with a shiny sphere on top, you'll know its an Ahrens Fox. This fire truck was delivered new to Providence, Rhode Island in 1928 and served there for nearly six decades!
