In 1911, Howard Taft was our president and the very first Indianapolis 500 race was run. The electric starter was also invented in this year, which meant that hand-cranking a car would soon be a thing of the past. It also meant that most people would want to buy gasoline cars now, instead of steam cars. 1911 would be the last year that the White Motor Company produced steam cars, in fact.
Here is a White gasoline car, one of the sturdiest cars made at the time. It was solidly built on the "latest engineering science," according to the White Gasoline Cars Catalog of 1911. And notice, it is our very first car with the modern left-hand drive!
