This installation is based on the Roman Catholic devotional tradition of the "Stations of the Cross," a mini-pilgrimage commemorating Christ's last day. The Stations were often found not only inside, but also outside of the church, in nature. John O'Donohue, the Irish poet/philospher, says, "...beauty is the homeland of the heart. When it can dwell in beauty the heart is home...the other name of God is beauty." This work, having no formal religious significance, resulted after a two week solo stay in the dune shack "Boris," sponsored by Outer Cape Artists in Residency Consortium (OARC) in conjuction with the Peaked Hill Trust. OARC and the Peaked Hill Trust make the shacks available to artists for these stays on a limited basis. I will be forever grateful.
