Welcome to the Tour!

Welcome!!!! The University of Texas, as we all know, has one of the top, most prestigious Fine Arts departments in Texas. These sheds house many of the most valuable collections held by the College of Fine Arts at the University of Austin. Shed “GRAD” is of particular importance, as it was built on burial grounds of rival university graduate students. In addition to this, these sheds are a collection or series of installations by artists Christo & Jeanne-Claude, built in the early 1900’s. Christo & Jeanne-Claude are renowned earthwork artists, who installed these structures as a protest to the lack of accessibility and occupancy of the large crit space. These sheds were also built as a symbol of freedom, as they detach from the main building, independent from the established host institution.

For this reason, we ask visitors not to touch the sheds. This is because our hands produce oils that may damage and corrode the sheds more rapidly over time.

As of 2020, the sheds have been transformed into gallery and display spaces for University staff. Shed “GRAD” in particular, houses some of the Fine Art College’s most important historical artifacts. By listening to this audio tour, you can learn more about the signififcance of the historical items housed in these sheds.
