This collection is one of the most contoversial yet bold and powerful collections in the University of Texas at Austin.
What you all see in front of you, to the leftmost of the shed, under the glistening lights of the installation is an accumulation of chairs. These are the very chairs that the University of Texas at Austin offers to it's wide and diverse range of students and staff.
These chairs are originals from the very first sets of chairs distibuted through the ART building after it's constuction in 1844. The architects who built these charis constucted and placed each one of these seating vessels very delicately and intentionally. They produced these chairs as a symbol, they were offering everybody a seat, challenging hierchies within acadiemia.
The variety of chair is indicative of the diversity of the student body.
These chairs have been given titles and arranged accorging to both stature as well as age. From right to left, are chair number one, chair number two, chair number three, chair number four, chair number six, and chair number seven.
Please do not touch of sit on these chair monuments.
