These prints were made at Oehme Graphics in Steamboat Springs, with the help of Master Printer Sue Oehme. With her expert knowledge I have explored using my woven textiles as printing plates.
I attached pieces of woven and sealed textile to a large piece of laminate to serve as the foundational printing plate of the series. I used a multitude of watercolor on mylar paintings, cut into various shapes, layered onto a master sheet of acrylic, for the first and second runs through the press. Finally, the textile laminate plate was inked with oil-based ink for the last run through the press.
The Soliloquy print Series are inspired by the ever-changing play of light on water, and the way that sometimes you can see the bottom of a lake, its surface, and the reflection of the sky— all at once. These prints were made just as Covid-lockdown was lifting. The title Soliloquy reflects the lonely feeling of that time.
