The works in the Surge Series evoke the feeling of that place where land meets the water, where waves meet the shore. The simple act of dipping a white warp into blue dye is the sole design element in this series. The color in the warp alternates between white and blue. The color changes in a ragged line, which reminds me of what waves do on the shore.
The warp is made of ramie yarn with Viscose-coated silk floating yarns. The weft is also ramie, plus stainless-steel wrapped silk and paper yarns, all sourced from Japan.
Why waves? The lifespan of a wave is elusive. Waves can’t be captured. They’re gone before you know it. When weaving I strive to capture a moment as elusive as the lifespan of a wave, so that I can return to it, make it abide for a while, and feel its grace.
