Welcome & Introduction

Welcome to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, a parish of over 3,500 families with a blue-ribbon award-winning school that serves pre-k through 8th grade. Originally, a mission church of St. Mary’s in Annapolis, it was founded in 1902 by Joseph Brenan who was fulfilling a promise to God to build a church in answer to a prayer requesting a priest to arrive in time to administer last rites to his wife before she died.

In 1959 a group of parishioners petitioned the Archdiocese of Baltimore for independent status and a new church. Archbishop Francis Keough declared St. John the Evangelist an official and independent parish. The church building was completed and dedicated in 1964.

Beginning in 2024, planning for a major renovation was undertaken to remove the black asbestos ceiling, install new lighting and replace the HVAC equipment that dated back to the original construction of the church, and to introduce beautiful sacred art inspired by the Scripture writings of St. John to lead us closer to God in prayer and worship and connect us more deeply with our patron saint. The renovation was completed and dedicated by Archbishop William Lori on August 20, 2025.

Please proceed through the main doors of the church to our baptismal font.
