The Forbes Road was a military success and played its part in a larger British victory. The French colonies surrendered in September 1760. Three years later, Treaty of Paris ended the Seven Years’ War. The British empire expanded their holdings around the world, and in doing so they sowed the seeds of future rebellions.
Forbes named the new fortification at the Forks of the Ohio, Fort Pitt, in honor of the ambitious Secretaty of State. The Post at Loyal Hanna was rechristened in honor of Field Marshall John Ligonier - Commander-in-Chief of the entire British Army’s activities during the Seven Years War.
General John Forbes arrived back in Philadelphia on January 17, 1759. He died on March 11 - buried with full military honors in the chancel of Christ Church in Philadelphia.
