Hungry Minds Club Origin
At ByteDance’s 7th Anniversary, our founder Zhang Yiming shared a line from Alice in Wonderland:
Alice laughed. “There’s no usetrying,” she said. “One can’tbelieve impossible things.”The Queen replied, “I daresay you haven’t had muchpractice. When I was younger,I practiced for half an houra day. Why, sometimes I’vebelieved as many as siximpossible things beforebreakfast.”
Yiming adapted this line: instead of “impossible things,” he thought of them as “interesting things that could happen in theory but not in reality yet..”
That, to him, is romance: imagining what could be, before it exists.
Big or small, in work or in life, possibilities only become reality when we act on them.
And as a company, we should always keep imagining how to create products that are better, more innovative, and more valuable than what exists today.
This is why Hungry Minds was born — a place for imagination to grow.
