Here’s a quick question to get us started: do you know where ByteDance’s headquarters are? London? Los Angeles? Singapore? Actually, it's none of those!

ByteDance doesn’t have a traditional headquarters. It’s one of the things that makes our culture a little different. In an early message to the whole company, our founder shared this idea:

“We must be on guard against the ‘big-company mentality.’ Instead of focusing on an elaborate office environment, we should direct our attention more towards products, users, and potential candidates.”

So even though we have offices all around the world, ByteDance made a conscious decision not to anchor everything in a single head office.

Instead, we operate as a fully global and decentralized company. Teams across regions connect and collaborate through Lark, our internal platform, making it easy to share ideas, unlock creativity, and work together from anywhere.

Right now, you’re standing in the lobby, your first stop inside the San Jose office. This is where all ByteDancers can take care of things like guest check-ins, visitor passes, and general questions. If you need anything, this is the place to start.
