Cowboys and Indians (Annie Oakley)

Like his image of John Wayne, this print reflects Warhol’s fascination with Americana and the Westerns of the 1930s and ’40s. The source is an 1890 photograph by Anthony Percival taken in London while Oakley toured with Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show.
