Flight Simulation and Virtual Reality area

In the far corner of the Hangar, behind the black screening, is located the Spitfire flight simulator, operated by the Raven Cockpits team.  This is the only full size Spitfire flight simulator in the country, offering a real life flying experience with expert instructors.

The Simulator cannot be accessed during regular public open hours, although the team will often run the programme in test mode during the day for the Public to get a feel of how the simulator works.  You can purchase a 1 hour training session from £90 per hour, please ask for some more infromation from a team member.

Also in the simulator area, is a replica RAF bomber section of a Halifax, in which we have installed original instruments and seating areas.  This section makes up our Virtual reality suite, where visitors can pay to undertake a world war two bombing raid to Berlin, as part of the RAF crew.

In WW2 the BBC sent a reporter on this mission, recording the action and the voices of the crew for the duration of the raid.  These recordings have been interpretted and a virtual reality programme created to give the viewer a realistic insight to how it would have been on board the Lancaster over Berlin.  Remember the voices you hear are the original RAF Crew, in action, not actors.
