Pure. Hardcore. Reduced. That’s the Group 1. The Group 1 builds on the sporty aspect of the E3, hinting at its racing character and clearly pointing to the real racing history behind luxury sedans. It is the logical interpretation of the E3’s premium driving dynamics, an expression of its maximum racing characteristics. Without compromise. Except for the passenger seat, of course.
A street-legal touring racecar? You betcha! In the heyday of the E3, racers drive their cars to the racetrack. These are road-going cars, after all. In Group 1 only minor modifications are allowed. For example: add a roll bar, lose the bumpers.
This is what an FIA Group 1 race touring car based on the E3 would have looked like - reduced to the essentials, equipped with the 5-speed racing gearbox, limited slip differential and all other contemporary sports and safety features.
