Mariam Darchiashvili is a self-taught painter from the country of Georgia. While studying at University she worked in an art studio in Tbilise. After she graduated with an MBA she realised that her life was in vain without art. She left business administration and started her painting career. Darchiashviii finds sources of inspiration in the human body and deep expressions of emotions. Drawing upon these sources she has produced many realistic artworks.
Of the work Jeanne, Darchiashvili said, "The girl in this painting was interesting and aesthetic to me, and that's why I drew it." In doing so, she evokes the greatest and most profound melancholy in the subject. The viewer cannot help but to speculate what tragic event or events must have caused such immense pain in the subject's soul to manifest itself in such a strikingly sad expression.
