On the nursing flight deck, there are a few duress alarms; 1 between the CNS and Coordinators computers. 1 under the research desk. NO duress alarm in the registrar office or research lab area. There is 1 near the computers where the disaster box is located.
Next to the disaster box is the procedures instruction book and action plans.
Please pull out the action plans and the vest. Send selfie of you in Area Warden Vest or Area Assembley Coordinator arm band, to one of the following people. Nursing staff to the Staff Development Nurses. Medical staff to Sandi Stone, Radiology, Clerical and Allied health to your line manager.
The ORANGE fluro vest is for the AREA WARDEN, and is the initial coordinator at the scene. This will be the E.D. nurse coordinator that shift, or Floor CNS, or a staff member who has attended the Area Warden Training. If you are a coordinator, have you read this procedures instruction book in the last 12 months? if you answer no, please review it.
The EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM is coordinated by an external CNS and has 3 security officers, a shift engineer and 2 orderlies. A medical registrar will arrive only once the emergency has been confirmed. The external CNS wears the YELLOW VEST and is the coordinator of the Emergency Response Team. This team works together with the Area Warden and the Emergency Department staff, Xray and CT staff to manage the incident.

The AREA ASSEMBLEY Coordinator ID arm band is located in the red box also. The Area Assembley coordinators role is to lead the way to the assembley point, always to do a roll call, head count on arrival. To account for staff and patients.
The main department evacuates to North Block Radiology Rooms - Ultra Sound area. To gain entry after hours, the red box holds a swipe access card.
The EMERGENCY CONTROL TEAM functions from the Emergency coordination Centre. They communicate with the scene of the emergency via 2 way radio. The team leader or officer in charge wears a WHITE vest.
Expert external agencies take charge of the incident on arrival. Fire brigade for code RED and ORANGE. WA police officers for CODE PURPLE and CODE BLACK ALPHA, (a child under the age of 18 abduction) and CODE BLACK BRAVO, (active shooter). They provide assistance at the scene as part of the Emergency Response Team and in the overall coordination of the emergency with the Emergency Control Team. The external experts rely on the local knowledge of the Emergency Department staff, in regards to environment and location of equipment and local policies, to deal with situations in a safe and effective manner.
