10 - The Sanctuary and Shrine of the Saint

Leaving the great Altar and the crossing behind we come to the space before the reconstructed shrine of St Albans, directly behind the Great Screen.  If the Nave is the Court of collective prayer and instruction, then such places as these were the object of personal prayer and pilgrimage for thousands that travelled to the Abbey each year.
