Charles Williams Jr - Lady of Harmony

Hello, everyone. My name is Charles Williams, Jr. Aka. Cwjr. I was born and raised on the Southwest Side of Chicago, Illinois. And now I'm currently residing in Woodridge, Illinois. I have the awesome privilege of being a member of the Amherst Art Museum as well as a member of the Gill Gallery in both sectors of the museum.

I have held my membership for six years. Within that time, I've gained a wealth of knowledge and experience as an artist. Today, I'm excited to be speaking with you all about my concept and overall process in creating this beautiful character miss Purpose Wilcom, also known as lady of Harmony.

Well, first and foremost, what inspired me to create this character was a question I had to ask myself. I said, if I had superpowers or the ability to change something in the world, what would it be?

Immediately, I began to think about the detriments that plague our society such as hatred, violence, racism, sexism, poverty and disease. Now, I know these things, sadly, have become a norm of our society.

But I thought, man, wouldn't it be amazing to eradicate these things even for just a day? Furthermore, I began to listen to the comic creative genius the man himself, Mr. Stan Lee. I was fortunate enough to run across a Ted Talk he gave in India speaking on creative character writing.

What he said that stood out the most to me was the understanding that when you are creating a character you want the character to have some relatable, realistic traits. Simply put, make your character human first.

That idea resonated with me. And I was sold on my concept of giving my superhero powers to fight against everyday issues. Next, I began to think about how would I bring my character to life and whether or not it would be a man or a woman without much contemplation.

I thought about my grandmother and how strong, kind, loving and beautiful she was was and how she played such a major and vital role in my life. She was my guardian, my aid and my support. When I look at this character, lady of Harmony, I think of my grandmother.

She was strong in faith, kind, and she had a heart for helping people. She pursued peace and exuded it. She had a God given gift on knowing how to disfuse controversy and break the barrier of discord.

Thus, lady of Harmony was born. Then I began to think about my character background story and how she must represent peace. Then I thought harmony represents peace. And I said, that's it. Lady of Harmony represents peace and harmony towards all mankind.

Then I thought about her civilian name must be Purpose because she has a God given purpose and her last name will come. Know that your God given purpose. It will come. Purpose, sadly, had a tragic experience of witnessing her father murdered.

This drove Purpose to pursue justice for her father in her pursuit. Her mother, being strong in her faith and religion, aided Purpose on a journey to seeking peace and dismantling hatred and bitterness in her own heart.

Over grieving her father, I decided to make Purpose young yet wise, human yet she has an intrinsic attribute of compassion. And with this innate ability or attribute of peace, god gifted purpose will come with the supernatural powers to eradicate hatred, violence, racism, sexism, poverty and disease from an individual's life one at a time.

She acquired this power by praying fasting and crying out to God for peace in her life and peace in the life of those around her. So God transformed this young 15 year old girl into a beautiful woman who will become fearless, strong, bold, courageous forgiving, resilient and compassionate towards all mankind.

A woman who fights for justice for all. A woman who is able to change an individual's life by touching their forehead or frontal lobe and gazing deep into their eyes and zoom. She transports to their past or future and removes the seeds of hatred and racism before they're planted.
