As I started to think about and prepare to create this site-specific installation, I played with ideas of discord, chasms, disengagement, and separation. Ultimately, I realized that I had an overwhelming need to represent a union, in an effort to demonstrate that this can happen. The layout for Confluence slowly evolved over a few months, and finally morphed into the forest/mountains/natural side, merging with the more gritty, urban, industrial complex with two small "rivers" running below each side and coming together in the middle. The river recedes into the distance with a sun/moon symbolically placed in the center.
