The two outer panels were printed first, and part of the challenge was placing all the inked plates at angles, rather than perpendicular to each other. Each piece went through the press at least three times, along with a little hand work at the end. The center “nucleus” emerged as I was thinking about what would cause such an explosion. The black marks were inspired by a small tree that I see every morning while working out in the pool. The branches all have tiny “fireworks” at the very tips. Increasingly, there’s a feeling of rushing into life without the calmness one needs to navigate the world in which we live. This piece represents this to me.
