Dogwood Hollow

Behind Inner Court, where the Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame is now, there once was a 2,000 seat plus amphitheater called Dogwood Hollow. Ward Melville named it this because his mother, Jenny, loved Dogwood trees. She was even known for planting them all throughout Stony Brook – sometimes on somebody else’s property! Dogwood Hollow hosted great performers like Benny Goodman, Louis Armstrong, Tony Bennett, Count Basie and so many more. It provided performances between 1955 and 1970. Due to its inability to sustain itself financially and the complaints filed against this property by its neighbors (residents in the community), Dogwood Hollow was closed permanently.
