Bishop Bonner Does Justice!

Bishop William Lee Bonner, prelate Chief Apostle of the Church Of Our Lord Jesus Christ has indeed made his own mark on the history of the Organization, and has clearly established his own unique identity in doing justice.

In 1973, Bishop Bonner visited Bokaytown, Liberia, West Africa, and the Lord spoke to his heart to build a new school for the hundreds of Liberian students who wished to receive an excellent spiritual and secular education.

He returned to Africa where he spent 60 days toiling and sweating in the hot sun first burning away the rough dense vegetation, then constructing the largest school complex in the area. The people of the Greater Refuge Temple and The Church Of Our Lord Jesus Christ in Detroit saw his vision and rallied to assist him in building the school. The complex has a library, six large classrooms, a dormitory for teachers, and a student dormitory. Also, a large clinic was constructed to administer to the health needs of the Bassa community. At one point, the clinic was treating 400 people a week.

During the 1973 visit to Africa, a great drought encompassed much of Africa. Bishop Bonner visited the drought-stricken areas in Niger, Ethiopia, and Mali. He saw women, children and thousands of people dying from the lack of food. He was so touched by it all that he returned to New York and asked the people to help raise funds not only to feed the hungry multitudes, but to provide continuous support for the drought-stricken refugees.

He established the "Save A Child" program where hundreds of African children were adopted by American families and friends.

In 1978, Bishop Bonner returned to Africa to build a new school in Congo town near Monrovia, Liberia. This school is one of the most modern in all of Liberia.
