Welcome to the Hunter Wetlands Centre’s Sensory Trail — a special path designed to help you experience nature in a whole new way.
Here, we invite you to slow down and use all your senses — touch, smell, sound, sight, and even taste — to discover the wetlands around you. You might feel the textures of leaves and bark, listen to bird calls or rustling reeds, breathe in the scent of native plants, or notice the cool breeze moving across the water.
The Sensory Trail was originally created by the Jesmond Lions Club, whose vision was to make the wetlands more accessible and inclusive for everyone. Thanks to the generous support of the Australian Government, Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group, Jesmond Lions Club, Trinity Catholic College, and the Australian Plants Society, the trail has recently been upgraded — refreshed with new plantings, improved paths, and updated signage.
This trail celebrates connection — with nature, with community, and with the incredible diversity of life that thrives here at the wetlands.
When you’re ready, continue along the path to your next stop, and let your senses guide the way.
