Hi, my name is Chuck Brenton and i am a full time artist working out of Bellvue, Colorado just west of Fort Collins. The sculpture that stands in front of you is titled “Columgnar X1” and is crafted out of Corten weathering steel.
This series stands as a testament to the internalization of the geologic fragments of mountain landscapes, the work guided by my experiential memories of form that are created when I am trail running. Through an intuitive process of cutting, folding, welding, and stacking, I strive for a sense of structure that blurs boundaries between the man-made and the rugged. I explore not only exterior form but also the depths of interior space. I invite viewers to reflect on their own spatio-lithic memories and the refreshing deviation that unconventional angles, balance, and tension offer the mind.
