Barbara Baer - "Waterspout"

Welcome.  My name is Barbara Baer, and my sculpture is titled Waterspout.  This work was designed for a home garden or public sculpture field like this one.

The shapes for Waterspout mimic the rolling waves of fast, tumbling water.  The line patterns and vibrant primary colors communicate energy and movement.  I chose the two materials for their contrast -- opaque aluminum and transparent acrylic sheet.  In sunlight the translucent painting comes alive, glowing like colored glass.

Because this is outdoor sculpture, the design considers natural forces – extreme temperature, possible impacts, damaging ultraviolet light, and 100 MPH winds. These conditions drive decisions about the structure, materials, pigments and finishes.

I enjoy creating work inspired by the natural world, works that mix invention, play and beauty.
