Eyes Gallery (400 Block of South St)

After South Street was threatened with demolition for the Crosstown Expressway, many businesses moved out. As in places like SoHo in NYC, artists came to fill many of these empty buildings. The Eyes Gallery (which is still located on this block) was one of those enterprises. It comprises part of what has become understood as the South Street Renaissance. The gallery is still owned by Julia Zagar. Art by her husband, Isaiah Zagar, decorates its facade. You can spot Isaiah Zagar's characteristic building art throughout the neighborhood (and beyond).
