Homare Ikeda - "Banana"

My journey with this paper began as this.

After dialogues with silence, I became vividly aware of

existence of this paper; its shape, size, white surface, etc.

Then, silence came again...

After the covid-19 hit, I received a message at times in my night and daydreams - “look at trees... primordial trees. Trees will tell you how to navigate in this time of uncertainty.”

After my image of a primordial tree was painted on the center of the paper, I created an ocean to ground it. The ocean is the genesis of life forms. Then the process went on to include the crews joining the journey. They are part of my aesthetic decisions, which relate to what medium to use when to pause and how to execute. The viewer might enjoy guessing how I exit one image and then enter the next.

I used various mediums to show my respect for them.

Watercolors

Pencils

Charcoals

Collage

Acrylic paints

Markers

Pen

Ink

Crayons

Pastels

I approached this drawing from multiple angles, and it might be fun to move around to view it.

Thank you.
