We’ll start at a very important tree for San Francisco: the very first tree ever planted by Friends of the Urban Forest. In April 1981, FUF’s first planting ever was in Noe Valley, and the first tree planted in that planting was the glossy privet that is still here, more than 40 years later, at 3913 24th Street. The tree is native to southern China, and the scientific name is Ligustrum lucidum.
