Silk Oak

At 4121 23rd is a silk oak from eastern Australia – the scientific name is Grevillea robusta.  This is the only common street tree in San Francisco that is from the protea family.   The tree has pretty orange flowers, but the flowers are typically high in the canopy, and silk oaks flower better where there is summer heat, so we don’t always get showy flowers in chilly San Francisco.
