London Plane Tree

On the south side of 23rd Street at 4019 23rd is a very large London plane tree – the scientific name is Platanus x acerifolia.   This is the most commonly planted urban tree in temperate climates around the world – it is very common in London, Paris and New York.  It is also the tree that lines both sides of Market Street from the financial district to the Castro neighborhood.
