The Lincoln Blacksmith

This photograph of the blacksmith shop was captured sometime between 1913 and 1918. According to the Lincoln historical records, Ben and Tom Hardin are identified as the blacksmiths operating in that establishment. Data from the 1910 United States Census indicates that Tom Hardin owned the blacksmith shop and was employed as a blacksmith. Additionally, he owned the residence they both occupied at that time. Conversely, Benjamin Hardin was engaged in sporadic laborer tasks. At that time, Tom was 50 years old (born in 1860), and Benjamin was 38 years old (born in 1872). The 1900 Census records show that Benjamin resided in Lincoln as a farmer, living alone. However, the 1910 Census reveals that Tom remained married, whereas Benjamin was divorced. Presently, the location is occupied by Carter's Flowers and More.
