I am called Dodge Cemetery and I was a small cemetery next to the Baptist church as early as 1840. I was enlarged in 1900 and used by nearly all the families in my part of town. Today, I have expanded even further next to the Baptist Church. While many think I belong to the Church, I am really owned and cared for by the Town of Hampton Falls.
Please pause the audio and walk through the white fence opening.
Can you find the grave of Lincoln Herbert Akerman who grew up in Hampton Falls? Akerman volunteered in World War II to diffuse bombs. He was killed by one of those bombs, the first soldier from our town to lose his life in that war. The town named Lincoln Akerman School after this war hero.
Another gravesite to visit is that of Lillian Edgerly. Lillian ran the Edgerly Farm with her husband, Carlton, which is now the site of Shoppers Village on Lafayette Road.
Since my name is Dodge Cemetery, you should find the grave of Betsey or Dudley Dodge. Dudley Dodge ran a cotton batting mill in town and was a New Hampshire representative and senator. Betsey Dodge was probably the first Baptist in Hampton Falls and welcomed ministers into her home to preach.
Feel free to visit and read the gravestones of more of my friends who are here resting in peace.
