Study for Ice flow

I like the bleakness of winter. There's never a shortage of subject matter that's readily exposed after the leaves have fallen and the winds offer their chill. This ink and watercolour study presented the opportunity to use some striking turquoise pigments I recently purchased. The blocks of ice filter the natural light and create exquisite  tones of blue. I used that same turquoise pigment in the egg tempera based on this study.
