Study of Cornstalks

I make a point to take solitary walks with my sketch pad and gather ideas that serve as references for studio work. The two ink sketches of dried cornstalks displayed here were drawn on location during a wintry January at the nearby Kerschner farm. Sometimes the farmers leave just enough standing corn to serve as a food source for the deer population. I imagine these cobs of corn were a tasty treat. Perhaps some grey squirrels even joined in the winter buffet.
