Historic Meadowbrook Neighborhood

As you wind through the shady streets of Kilgore, you will enter the Meadowbrook neighborhood, a peaceful area that reflects the charm of mid century small town life. Centered around the Meadowbrook Golf and Event Center at 1306 S Houston Street. Established in 1932, this area and nearby Meadowbrook Park, became one of Kilgore’s most desirable addresses during the oil boom years.

As prosperity surged, oilmen and business leaders built stylish homes along these tree lined streets. You will see a mix of architectural designs, from Colonial Revival to Craftsman bungalows, each reflecting the confidence of a growing community. The neighborhood was shaped around recreation and leisure, with picnic areas, tennis courts, and a nine hole golf course and country club that remain in use today.

Many of the homes now display local historic markers, recognizing their architectural character and the generations who have lived here. As you drive through, take in the quiet atmosphere, a striking contrast to the forest of derricks that once dominated Kilgore’s skyline. Here, history feels settled and still, tucked beneath the pines.
