Nugget Hill Historic District

Continue north on Sixth St to Nugget Hill Historic District. One of the most iconic homes is located at 802 N Sixth St, but the neighborhood itself is bounded by E. Marshall, N. Teague, Padon, and N. Sixth street.  Nugget Hill was Longview’s first suburban neighborhood.  Platted in 1931 by developer Harry S. Turner and envisioned as a haven for the newly wealthy, especially those who found fortune in the East Texas oil fields.

The 40 acre subdivision was precisely laid out, enforcing uniform deed restrictions to ensure elegance and quality.  Turner even reserved land for a private park and a fire station which was rare for the time.  Within just five years, Nugget Hill had become the "showplace of Northeast Texas" a reflection of how oil money shaped the social landscape.  Driving through these winding streets and you will see beautifully maintained catalog of 1930's architecture - Tudor Revival cottages, stately Colonial homes, and Mediterranean villas, many designed by Houston and Dallas architects.  Nugget Hill serves a a testament to the prosperity that built Longview.
