Washington Street was the center of commerce and activity in Silver City. The street was lined with merchantile shops, bars, restaurants, butchers, bakers, barbers, doctors, lawyers, druggests, habidasheries, and many other business that supported the miners and townspeople.
Most of the building on the east side of the street between Deadman's alley and Avalanche street were lost to the Christmas fire of 1907, which is now the site of Memorial park.
