Next to the Grete house lies the Odd Fellows Hall, currently being restored by the town’s homeowners. The building was originally built as an apartment house in the 1870s by Dave Adams, a man who was responsible for building many homes for miners and others at that time. He operated the “Big Store” which once stood next to the hall. He lived in the hall and rented out the rest of the apartments. In 1905 or 1906, the building was purchased by the Odd Fellows and Knights of Pythias. Both fraternal organizations had been holding their meetings in the Masonic Hall. In those days, nearly all men were a member of at least one fraternal group as they served their social and insurance needs, caring for widows and children of many miners and businessmen.
The two fraternal organizations remodeled their lodge and the lower floor was turned into a dance hall with a stage for the orchestra. The Knights of Pythias disbanded at some point and the building was used for many years for Odd Fellows meetings. It is now owned by the Silver City Homeowners who used it as the lodging for the winter watchman and are doing extensive renovations to allow it to be used again.
