Grand Staircase and Upper Hall

  • Let's exit the dining area and head up the stairs. Notice the original mirror in the entryway was a symbol of Henderson's wealth, its mercury backing now spotted with age.

  • The wide oak staircase was designed so ladies wouldn’t trip on their skirts, and it was reserved for family and guests. We will see the servant's staircase soon

  • Above, the largest stained-glass window in the Castle still shines. A heart in the top pane was Frank’s tribute to Mary, while the lower pane once worked as a sundial, its twelve points marking the hours. Over time, the earth’s angle shifted slightly, and the dial fell silent.

  • The piano displayed is the very same one from the old dining room photographs. Guests have claimed that they hear the resonance of a single key being played late at night
