Let's exit the dining area and head up the stairs. Notice the original mirror in the entryway was a symbol of Henderson's wealth, its mercury backing now spotted with age.  

The wide oak staircase was designed so ladies wouldn’t trip on their skirts, and it was reserved for family and guests. We will see the servant's staircase soon 

Above, the largest stained-glass window in the Castle still shines. A heart in the top pane was Frank’s tribute to Mary, while the lower pane once worked as a sundial, its twelve points marking the hours. Over time, the earth’s angle shifted slightly, and the dial fell silent. 

The piano displayed is the very same one from the old dining room photographs. Guests have claimed that they hear the resonance of a single key being played late at night
