Part 2-Main Dining Room (Christine)

  • During Fred Eagle Royce’s ownership, renovations were underway in this very room. A contractor often brought his little daughter, Christine, just six years old.

  • One day, while her father’s back was turned, she climbed the ladder to the bird’s eye maple archway and began tracing her name into the wet stain. But before she could finish… she slipped.

  • Her neck snapped in the fall. The work was abandoned, leaving the arch blotched and scarred. Look closely and you can still see the faint outline of her unfinished name. Stain after stain fails to cover it. And on quiet nights, guests swear they hear the tiny tapping of her fingers on the wood.

  • Three statues in this room were imported from Europe by Fred “Eagle” Royce. Near the fireplace stands Diana, goddess of the hunt, with an eagle at her side. In the back corner is Selene, goddess of the moon, once shown holding the North Star, now broken away. The largest statue again depicts Diana, perched on an eagle with a hunting dog and snake.

  • In the corner, you’ll see two photos of the Woman in White, a ghostly figure in a nightgown often spotted drifting through the Castle on quiet nights.
