Proceed north out of Bainbridge on Route 41. En route you will pass through Humbolt where Spout Spring is located on the right. Continue on Rt. 41 North through Fruitdale to power plant on left. Turn right on Lower Twin Road. You will go through the Buckskin Covered bridge, the only one left in Ross County. In South Salem visit the old Salem Academy, still used by the school system. The cemetery where Queen Victoria’s half sister is buried is nearby. From South Salem, take Lower Twin Road to Route 50. Turn right and come back to Bainbridge through Bourneville. There you can stop and see the old stone “calaboose” behind the Fire Department and township building. The village drunks were confined there long ago. From Bourneville to Bainbridge you will travel through Paint Valley. Note the hills on either side as you drive along. You will also get quick glimpses of Paint Creek for which the valley was named. Stop at Seip Mound State Memorial and view the impressive earthworks created by the Moundbuilders. The mound was excavated in the 1920’s and the artifacts are housed at the Ohio State Historical Society in Columbus. While here, look to the east and you will see Copperas Mountain, a formation of layers of shale, from which exudes a copperas element. Upon returning to Bainbridge, for the golfer at heart, take SR 41 north again and turn right on Tong Hollow Road to visit the very challenging Valley Vista Golf Course.
