Welcome to the city of Corinth. This location has a storied history, from the accounts of heroes in the mythical era to the epic basilicas of late antiquity. This audio tour will focus on the first century BC and AD during the Roman period. The Apostle Paul traveled to Corinth on his second missionary journey in AD 51-52. According to the New Testament, he spent 18 months in Corinth along with two other tentmakers names Aquila and Pricilla. He met others here as well, such as Gaius (a wealthy individual who hosted both Paul and the gathering of early Christ-followers in his villa) and Erastus (a local city official who later traveled with Paul to Ephesus). Paul returned to Corinth on his third missionary journey. He also speaks of an additional visit in his correspondence with the Corinthians, meaning he came here at least three times.
Paul wrote four letters to the Corinthian Christ-followers. Two are included in the Holy Scriptures and two have been lost to history, though we know about their existence since the apostle refers to them in 1 & 2 Corinthians.
