Curse

Mortuary chapel

The mortuary chapel or mausoleum contains the tombs of Lord and Lady Ardilaun. Two miniature stained glass windows depict the Ardilaun and Bantry coats of arms. There is also, very unusually, a curse on the left hand wall: “God bless the man who doth this hallowed place revere / But cursed be he who would disturb those sleeping here”. Directly beneath the chapel is a crypt.

Leave the church by the door out of the transept (if open) and turn the corner to the left to hear more about the crypt.
