Tower and porch

The porch under the tower provides the main entrance into the church. A small doorway in the corner gives access to a spiral staircase ascending the tower, where there is a robing room used at one time by the choir, and above it the belfry. In the porch itself, notice the four stained glass windows, which depict the building of the Temple in Jerusalem by King Solomon. These windows were another gift from Bishop Plunket. He donated them in 1929 in memory of Laurence Brodie Drury, who died in 1928 at the young age of 18. Laurence Drury was the only son of the Rev. Ernest Drury, who had succeeded Canon Hayes as rector in 1918. If you look up at the ceiling you will also see carved wooden bosses in the shape of roses.

Please now enter the church and look up to your left to see the great West Window.
