Crossing the Bridge

.

I'm speaking to you from now, in 2021.
But this tour comes from before, from 1923.

.

Stories of Larch Island go back millennia, well before recorded history. By some accounts, the island pops in and out of existence, although for the last little while, it has been a permanent fixture in Canmore. It hasn’t always been this way.

This tour is a walk through the odd, early history of Larch Island, told in seven parts. There are seven trail markers along this route – once you reach the numbered marker, you can listen to the corresponding stop on this tour. The trail markers, like this story, are old and fading into the landscape, so you may have to look with eyes wide to see them.

To begin the tour, you’ll have to cross the threshold into Larch Island. There is a small footbridge here, to walk you over the water. Make sure to hold your breath as you cross over. Performing this small ritual will help open up the hidden world of Larch Island.

Once you've crossed over, you’ll be ready to hear more about this tour, and the Tree of Safe Travels.
