Final Cluster of Boston Dwelling House Company cottages

Keep moving down Southbourne, cross Florian to the final cluster of BDHC houses.

These cottages were also designed by Walter Kilham and James Hopkins. They date from 1912 and are designed in the Arts and Crafts style – another of the styles the firm was well known for. It is (according to the Boston Landmarks Commission) “the best preserved collection of Arts & Crafts style architecture in Boston”. They are (or were in many cases) half-timbered cottages with slate roofs and clay exterior walls that were  then covered in stucco. There is a central grassy space between all the cottages which the houses cluster around, referred to as a lozenge-shape in promotional materials. There are pedestrian paths that connect everyone.
