Ute Pass Historical Society History Park

Welcome to History Park. This is a museum with historical cabins containing exhibits about the History of Woodland Park and the Ute Pass area. There are 6 buildings in this museum.

This building, called the Carroll Den is named after an early settler family. It contains exhibits about The Midland Railroad. The Midland Railroad opened this area to visitors from around the country and helped establish the towns along Ute Pass.

The next building is the original jail in Woodland Park. It was built in 1891, when the town was first established. Next to the Jail is an outhouse from the Divide Community Club, built in the 1920’s.

Next to the outhouse is a log cabin called the Brockhurst Cabin. It was built by Henry Brockhurst, who was from an earlier settler’s family. Henry and his wife, Lulu, had a working cattle ranch first, then it became a dude ranch and finally was a group home for troubled boys. Henry and Lulu both loved to ride horses and included horseback rides as part of the dude ranch experience when people stayed with them. They never had children but loved it when kids came and learned how to ride. They had a Riding Academy in Green Mountain Falls, and this building was their office there. This cabin contains artifacts from the early days in Woodland Park as well as Henry Brockhurst’s bed and other items belonging to him and his wife, Lulu.

The Ute Pass Historical Society’s main office and gift shop are located next door to the Brockhurst Cabin. This building was built in 1890 and is a log cabin covered by Stucco. It contains an artifact room, archives, research library and historical photo collection of about 5,000 photos.

The last building here is the Immer Cabin, which was owned by the Immer family and given to the Historical Society. It was built in 1940 and contains things from the 40’s as well as items from the earlier days of Woodland Park. It includes church, school and town exhibits. The exhibits include postal boxes from the first Post Office, located in Cascade. There are also items from the 2nd oldest church, the Church in the Wildwood.

The last cabin in History Park is located below the library on the South side. It is called the Steffa Cabin. The Steffa’s owned the land that is now Woodland Park and the location of this cabin. The exhibits in this cabin include some history about the early 1900’s in Woodland Park when there were casinos, the Ute Trail Stampede Rodeo, and cattle ranching. There is also a room dedicated to the Utes, the first inhabitants of this area. There are collections of old leatherwork, bead work, arrows and spearheads.
